What is Emerald?

The name emerald comes from the Greek 'smaragdos,' via the Old French 'esmeralde,' which means 'green gemstone.'

It is said that emeralds have healing properties and promise good luck. The emerald is also believed to enhance overall well-being. One of the world's largest emeralds is the so-called 'Mogul Emerald'. It dates back to 1695, weighs 217.80 carats and is some 10cm tall. One side of the gem is inscribed with prayer texts and engraved on the other side are magnificent floral ornaments. This legendary emerald was auctioned by Christie's of London to an unidentified buyer for $2.2 million on September 28, 2001.

At Ben Garelick Jewelers we have dazzling emerald jewelry (at lower prices than 2.2 mil) including rings, necklaces, pendants and bracelets in platinum, yellow and white gold.
